Is Cal Raleigh beginning rehab assignment soon? Here’s the latest injury update

The Seattle Mariners have been without Cal Raleigh since placing him on the 10-day IL after the club’s 4-3 loss to the Houston Astros on May 13. While Raleigh has been working his way back from side discomfort, it sounds like he is on the verge of beginning his rehab assignment.

Reports indicate that the 29-year-old catcher is going to stay in Seattle during the Mariners’ next road trip (10 games in three different series), and could begin his rehab assignment during that time, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Nothing is official just yet, but at the very least, Raleigh has been making progress in his injury recovery.

“Update on Cal Raleigh: He’ll remain in Seattle to rehab as the Mariners embark on their three-city road trip,” reported Kramer. “But sounds like he could near a Minors rehab assignment while they’re away. He’s been ramping up the past few days — running, swinging, and catching drills.”

It’s said that the six-year veteran has been dealing with discomfort in his right side throughout most of the 2026 season. However, after trying to play through it, the pain was seemingly too much, and it was time to give Raleigh the time to fully recover, as he was placed on the IL with a right oblique strain.

The injury may also have been the reason for his cold start to the campaign. After finishing last season as the home run leader with 60 dingers, Cal Raleigh’s start to 2026 has been abysmal, to say the least. In the 41 games he’s played so far, he owns a dismal .161 batting average and .243 OBP while totaling 26 hits, seven home runs, and 18 RBIs through 161 at-bats.
