Inter vs Roma predictions
Inter will be glad to see the back of the month of March.
The Serie A leaders did not win any of their four games at the start of spring. First, they were held 0-0 by Como in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.
Then came a more painful 1-0 defeat by AC Milan in the latest edition of the Derby della Madonnina, before Inter dropped four points in back-to-back draws with Atalanta and Fiorentina.
All of which means the Nerazzurri are no longer sitting quite so comfortably at the summit of the standings.
After a 2-0 defeat of Genoa on February 28, Inter extended their advantage over second-placed Milan to 13 points (albeit having played a game more).
Fast forward a few weeks and their lead is suddenly down to six points. Inter remain clear favourites to win the scudetto, but it no longer looks like a done deal.
Milan deserve some of the credit for that. They have won three of their last four matches to keep the heat on Inter. That 1-0 victory in the derby was especially significant.
Yet the main reason why the title race is suddenly back on is Inter’s sudden dip in form, a turnaround which no one predicted after an eight-game winning streak culminating in the aforementioned success against Genoa.
Inter have not necessarily been playing badly. The derby defeat by Milan came in an even game. Christian Chivu’s side were then the better team against Atalanta, only to be denied a win after a controversial late equaliser from Nikola Krstovic.
The performance against Fiorentina last time out was the most concerning of the lot. Inter took the lead within seconds of kick-off, but their opponents dominated proceedings thereafter.
By the end of the encounter, la Viola had chalked up an xG of 2.31. Inter were fortunate to only concede once.
“Nobody has ever written off the chasing teams, the season is still long and many games remain,” Chivu said afterwards. “Everything is possible.”
This weekend has the potential to be huge for the title race. Inter face a tricky test against Roma, but Milan are in for an even sterner examination away to Napoli on Monday night.
The results at San Siro and the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona could go a long way to determining the destination of the title.
Inter vs Roma betting tips
San Siro hosts a massive match in the Serie A title race as Inter do battle with Roma this weekend.
Another spanner in works?
Roma head into Sunday’s showdown at San Siro needing to get some points on the board quickly.
Their top-four hopes have faded in recent weeks, although Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are only three points adrift of the final Champions League qualification berth.
With Inter, AC Milan and Napoli set to take three of the four guaranteed places available to Italy, the other one looks like a three-way fight between Como, Juventus and Roma.
The Giallorossi will hope to take advantage of Inter’s recent struggles by getting something on Sunday, although a victory will probably be beyond them.
Pick a draw at 8/3 with 247Bet
Tight, cagey affair
Inter remain the top scorers in Serie A by some distance, but it is notable that their recent matches have been low-scoring.
Indeed, there have not been over 2.5 goals in any of their last six games in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Roma’s matches have been relatively uneventful all campaign. Their fixtures are averaging just 2.1 goals every 90 minutes, the fourth-lowest figure in the division.
With the home crowd likely to be nervy, we can see this being a tight encounter with goals at a premium.

Malen on scoresheet
If Roma ultimately get over the line in their fight for a top-four finish, the January signing of Donyell Malen will have been key.
Since his switch from Aston Villa on an initial loan deal that will become permanent in the summer, Malen has scored seven goals in nine league appearances.
That means the Netherlands international is already Roma’s top goalscorer for the season, despite featuring in less than a third of their fixtures.
With his direct running and off-the-ball movement, Malen will give Inter plenty to think about. He has also become Roma’s go-to penalty-taker, giving the forward another way to get his name on the scoresheet.
Tip Donyell Malen to score any time at 11/4 with bet365
