Insider gives Lakers ‘low’ chance to run it back after limping out of playoffs

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming into the offseason with a lot of decisions to make for their future. Though they had a solid season, injuries to their key players going into the playoffs led them to flame out in the second round against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now, with free agents to consider re-signing, some are wondering what the plans will be for the team.

That question was posed to Dan Woike of The Athletic in his latest mailbag, as he was asked what the chances were of the team running it back with the same roster from this past season.

“Low. I think the Lakers are under pressure to make changes, so that means some tough decisions,” Woike wrote.

That may be a good thing for the Lakers, as they want to improve the team more than anything. There’s already a good chance that Austin Reaves and LeBron James will be back on new deals, but other than that, there is uncertainty about what could happen with anybody else.

There have been rumors that Rui Hachimura may be the odd man out when it comes to who the Lakers will re-sign, and he’ll probably be on another team next season. The center rotation could also look a little different, as the Lakers have been trying to get a top option at the position to play alongside Luka Doncic, something he’s asked for since coming to the team.

You also have to factor in that they’ll be adding their draft selection to the team, and they may play a big part in the rotation in their first year.

There is a good chance that this team will look different next season along the margins as Doncic, Reaves and James continue to lead, and it will be interesting to see who they go after.
