Hurricanes news: What Carolina said about ‘game-changing’ Frederik Andersen save in Game 2

The Stanley Cup produced a wild finish as the Carolina Hurricanes stole Game 2, winning 4-3 in overtime against the Vegas Golden Knights. Here is what the Canes said about the “game-changing” save that goalie Frederik Andersen made in the third period,” according to the NHL.com recap by Tom Gulitti.

“What an incredible effort by Freddie just staying with that one and finding a way to get a piece of it. I was flopping everywhere. I didn’t know what was going on, and Freddie just stuck with it. The guy is an absolute animal,” Jordan Staal told Gulitti.

The save by Andersen drew controversy, as the Golden Knights believed the puck went in. However, the referees blew the whistle beforehand and called goalie interference, which Vegas attempted to challenge, and failed. That swung the momentum of the game, and the Canes gained the lead in the third. While the Golden Knights forced overtime with a goal, they could not recover after that call.

The Hurricanes take a 6-0 playoff road record to Vegas, hoping to flip the momentum back and take the lead. This win also guaranteed Game 5 at the Lenovo Center. With the win, the Hurricanes made some history, and now have a chance to change their trajectory after it appeared the Golden Knights would win and take a 2-0 series lead back to Vegas.

The goal by Seth Jarvis was his fourth of the postseason, and his first since Game 5 against the Montreal Canadiens. The tally was a great bounce-back for him after he struggled in Game 1. The Hurricanes will meet the Golden Knights for Game 3 in Vegas on Saturday.
