How Lamar Jackson truly felt about Ravens’ John Harbaugh firing

Lamar Jackson finally made an appearance at OTAs with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday after being absent throughout most of the voluntary portion of team activities. It was also the first time Jackson had spoken to media members since the organization fired John Harbaugh as head coach. With Jesse Minter stepping in as the new coach, the club’s superstar opened up about his thoughts on the franchise firing Harbaugh.

The 29-year-old quarterback admitted he was surprised by the team’s decision to let go of Harbaugh, according to Jeff Zebriec of  The Athletic. Jackson appreciated his former coach for playing an integral role in the city of Baltimore and the Ravens franchise, and wished him good luck with his new job as the New York Giants head coach.

“Lamar said he was shocked by Harbaugh’s firing,” reported Zebriec. “Said Harbaugh did so much for the city and the organization, and he wished him well in New York.”

This is the first time in Lamar Jackson’s NFL career that he will have a head coach who isn’t John Harbaugh. The eight-year veteran has had a ton of success playing under Harbaugh, earning two MVP Awards and being named a first-team All-Pro three times in his career.

But the struggles were real for the Ravens last season, as Baltimore failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2021-22 campaign. Additionally, Harbaugh hasn’t led the franchise to another Super Bowl appearance in over a decade after winning the Super Bowl in 2013.

With Jesse Minter stepping in as head coach, the Ravens, along with Lamar Jackson, aim to bounce back in a big way. The four-time Pro Bowler ended the 2025-26 campaign with 2,549 passing yards, 349 rushing yards (career-low), and 23 total touchdowns (21 passing, 2 rushing) while completing 63.6% of his pass attempts. Jackson only played 13 games due to a string of nagging lower-body injuries and a back injury.
