How Knicks guard Josh Hart’s Jimmy Fallon stunt led to ‘greatest comeback in history of world’

After having his shoes untied by Josh Hart, Jimmy Fallon did it during the New York Knicks‘ Game 1 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it might’ve sparked the comeback.

During the May 20, 2026, edition of The Tonight Show, Fallon recounted his experience going to Game 1 with his young daughter. She was over the moon to be at the game, but New York was down by 22 points late in the contest. She was receiving texts saying it was over, but Fallon wouldn’t let her give up.

His daughter asked if the Knicks still had a “chance,” and this sparked an idea. He told her to “untie my shoe like Josh Hart did,” and the rest is history.

“She unties my shoe [and] the Knicks have the greatest comeback in the history of the world ever, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God! This is actually happening!’ Her friends are like, ‘Are you at this game?’ It was electric. People are going, ‘Defense!’ The place was shaking. It was so fun,” he recalled.

Ultimately, the Knicks outscored the Cavs 14-3 in overtime. The icing on top was Hart running by Fallon and untying his other shoe.

Fallon had one of the best seats in the house as the Knicks made their comeback. He was sitting courtside alongside his daughter for the game.

His friendly back-and-forth with Hart began when the guard untied Fallon’s shoe during the Knicks’ Game 1 blowout win against the Philadelphia 76ers in their last series.

While that game was fun, the Tonight Show host called Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals (ECF) “the most exciting game that I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”

Game 2 will tip off at 8 pm EST on Thursday, May 21. It’s unknown if Fallon will be there. If he is, expect him to untie his shoes again if New York goes down big.
