How Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow found success despite Colorado’s freezing weather
Because Tyler Glasnow has never pitched more than 134 innings in a single campaign during his decade in The Show, it is easy to assume that conditions need to be optimal in order for him to succeed on the mound. Well, the Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander faced almost no trouble amid freezing conditions during Friday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.
Glasnow allowed one run on two hits in seven innings of work, while also recording seven strikeouts and two walks in what was a 7-1 divisional road victory for the Dodgers (15-4). Snow filled Coors Field when the teams arrived in the afternoon, and it remained quite cold when the action commenced in the evening. The two-time World Series champion (not on roster for 2024 playoffs) kept warm by moving around and staying in a heated area in between innings, but he also maintained a healthy mindset.
“I think the last time I pitched in really cold weather was 2019 and I don’t remember being that cold,” Glasnow told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson before Saturday’s matchup versus the Rockies (7-13). “And then yesterday, I wasn’t… It’s not that big of a deal. And I feel like I have such a huge advantage because they all have to sit out there and like freeze, and I’m just inside staying warm.”
"The margins of how I feel this year compared to last year are completely different."

Beyond his preparations for the frigid climate, Tyler Glasnow believes a mechanical change involving a back foot turn has helped enable him to carry a bigger workload in the early portion of the campaign.
“I think I can stay behind the four-seam {fastball} more, and I feel like I’m just in zone a lot longer,” the 2024 All-Star said. “With that foot turn, I can stay into my hips longer. My glove is higher, I feel like the release of each pitch is a lot truer… The margins of how I feel this year compared to last year are completely different.”
Tyler Glasnow owns a 3.24 ERA through 25 innings this season and has posted at least six innings and 90 pitches in all four of his starts.
