HBCU Legacy Bowl makes huge location change
The Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl is making a huge move ahead of the fall football season. The February showcase will now take place in Atlanta, Georgia, starting in 2027, after relocating from New Orleans, Louisiana. The move was announced by the HBCU Legacy Bowl on Friday in a statement.
“Atlanta represents tremendous growth and opportunity for the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl and the young people we serve,” Doug Williams, co-founder of the Black College Football Hall of Fame said in a statement. “We believe this next chapter will elevate the experience for our students, fans, partners, and NFL scouts while continuing to honor the proud traditions and lasting impact of HBCU football.”
James “Shack” Harris, also co-founder of the Black College Football Hall of Fame, added, “We are deeply grateful to Allstate for its continued commitment to, and belief in, the mission of the HBCU Legacy Bowl. Their support has helped us grow this event into a premier platform that creates opportunities for HBCU student-athletes and connects students and graduates with meaningful career pathways. We look forward to building on this momentum together as we continue to expand the impact of the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl.”
The HBCU Legacy Bowl, which was created in 2021, is one of the largest events for draft-eligible HBCU prospects. HBCU prospects from across the four HBCU conferences, as well as Hampton University, North Carolina A&T, Tennessee State, and the NAIA, are placed on two different teams: Team Gaither and Team Robinson. The team names are inspired by legendary HBCU coaches Eddie G. Robinson and Jake Gaither. They play an exhibition game on Saturday to showcase their skills and have individual drills attended by NFL scouts from all 32 teams.
The HBCU Legacy Bowl is broadcast on NFL Network and will return in February 2027.
