It’s been 28 years since Scotland last played a match in the World Cup, and the long wait for another one will finally come to an end on Saturday night, as they take on Haiti in Massachusetts.

Steve Clarke’s side head into their first World Cup match this century having won both of their warm up friendlies, defeating tournament debutants Curacao 4-1 in Glasgow before thrashing Bolivia 4-0 in New Jersey upon their arrival in the States.

This wins were welcome after suffering back to back defeats in March following on their triumphant qualifying campaign which saw them finish top of Group C after beating Denmark 4-2 on a famous night at Hampden Park, securing qualification after scoring twice in stoppage time at the end of the game.

Haiti will also be partaking in their first World Cup match for a considerable amount of time, reaching the group stage of the competition for just the second time in their history – their first since 1974.

Sebastien Migne’s side upset the odds to qualify top of a qualification group containing Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua, beating each of their opposition across their six matches.

The Caribbean nation have won one of their four friendlies since securing their historic qualification, thrashing New Zealand 4-0 in Florida at the start of the month before losing 2-1 to Peru last week, following from their March fixtures which saw them lose 1-0 to Tunisia and draw with Iceland, both in Canada.

This weekend’s meeting will be the first ever between the two nations.
