Both the date and the location of the fight are still to be confirmed ahead of the long awaited fight between the two boxers who have been flying the flag for Britain in the heavyweight division for much of the last decade and even beyond.
After years of negotiations and public callouts with both fighters and their camps frequently trading verbal jabs in the media, the idea of the two finally coming to blows, potentially even before the end of the year, no seems closer than ever.
The early favourite for the fight is Fury, who defeated Mariusz Wach in Thailand on Friday after the Polish fighter retired after seven rounds of the 12 round bout, leaving the Manchester-born boxer with a record of 36-2-1.
The victory means the 37-year-old has won both of his fights he’s fought this year following a lengthy time out of the ring after his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.
Fury fared better than his rival did this weekend, with the ‘Gypsy King’ dominated his fight, meanwhile Joshua was knocked down twice by his opponent before recovering to knock out Kristian Prenga in the second round of his fight in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
The win leaves Joshua with a 30-4 record, but with back to back wins following his defeat against Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title back in September 2024.
Joshua, 36, held the unified heavyweight championship twice between 2017 and 2021, while Fury held multiple world heavyweight championships, including unified titles from 2015 to 2016, the Ring magazine title twice between 2015 and 2022 and the WBC title from 2020 to 2024.
While no belts will be on the line when the two giants of heavyweight boxing go head to head, the fight will still no doubt be one of the biggest in British boxing history.
