Browns star hits back at false ‘narrative’ after appearing to make Sanders-Watson QB preference clear

Jerry Jeudy has pushed back over a viral video in which he appears to share his preference for the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback.

In a video shared on TikTok, the wide receiver flashed four fingers on a livestream, when a fan commented to ask: “Who u want ur starting qb to be?”

Many fans took that to be a reference to $230 million franchise flop Deshaun Watson, who wears the No. 4 jersey for Cleveland.

The veteran signal caller, who missed the entire 2025 season, will be in training camp battle with second-year star Shedeur Sanders for the starting role.

While the viral video appeared to show Jeudy’s preference was Watson over Sanders, he has since suggested the clip was edited.

There is a clear skip in the footage between when the wideout flashes his fingers, and when the question is shown.

“Lmao y’all just be lying so much for what??” he said in a post on X, shared Sunday afternoon.

Jeudy then followed up by suggesting he won’t speak on decisions that aren’t his to make, referencing the quarterback battle.

“I support my teammates/brothers, I do my job, and control what I can control,” he wrote.

“Let’s stop creating narrative that aren’t there for likes and clicks. I bet this won’t go viral because it’s too positive/real for y’all.”

When will the Browns name their starting quarterback for this season?

New Browns head coach Todd Monken is yet to confirm his starting quarterback for 2026.

The team’s training camp will run from July 28 to August 25, and all eyes will be on Watson and Sanders.

Monken complimented both quarterbacks during the offseason program, saying 24-year-old Sanders has ‘come a long way’ and that Watson’s ‘athleticism’ is clear to see.

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot believes fans are still weeks away from finding out who will be under center in Week 1.

“I think Monken will let the QB competition play out through at least the first two preseason games, and possibly all three,” Cabot wrote for cleveland.com.

“The starters probably won’t play much in the first preseason game in Chicago, leaving only the home games against the Bills and the Patriots to see Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders against a live defense for a significant period of time.

“The Browns will also get a good handle on their QBs during the joint practice against the Bills here on August 20.

“Ideally, Monken will name his QB1 sooner than later, but the desire to see them practice in pads and play against another team will probably outweigh deciding early to get the starter ready.

The Browns play their first NFL preseason game on the road against the Bears on August 15.

Monken’s team then returns home for games against Buffalo and New England on August 22 and August 27 respectively, as Cabot noted.

The new HC will hope to have a clear picture by the time those two contests at Huntington Bank Field are done, to ensure the Browns head into the regular season in good shape.

Cleveland’s 2026 season proper begins with a trip to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, September 13.
