Giants place Logan Webb on IL before Pirates clash

As the San Francisco Giants prepare to welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates to Oracle Park, the team made a flurry of roster moves that could have a noticeable impact on their short-term future, most notably placing struggling star pitcher Logan Webb on the injured list.

Taking to social media to announce the moves mere hours before the showdown, the Giants laid out how long Webb will be unavailable and what corresponding moves they’ve made to compensate for his absence.

“The San Francisco Giants made the following roster moves today: RHP Logan Webb placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee bursitis (retro to May 6). RHP Trevor McDonald (#72) recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. C Logan Porter (#13) selected from Triple-A Sacramento.”

A player fast-tracked for success since making his major league debut in 2019, Webb has really come into his own over the past five seasons, being named an All-Star on two occasions while finishing in the running for the Cy Young award four times. While his 2026 campaign hasn’t been up to his recent standards, recording a 5.06 ERA over eight starts with a win-loss record of 2-4, the diagnosis of right knee bursitis could help to explain why something has looked off when he takes the mound as of late.

With a few starts off to get his body back on track, the Giants are clearly hoping Webb will be able to get back on track and return to his vintage form before Memorial Day. Considering the body of work he’s put together at the MLB level, that feels like a pretty safe bet for a 29-year-old in his pitching prime.
