Red Sox sets new franchise record with 13-1 win over Athletics

The Boston Red Sox became red-hot before the MLB Trade Deadline passed. Now they’ve added a new franchise-record following tying their longest winning streak ever nearly a week ago. But this latest mark Friday arrived in the 13-1 rout of the Athletics.

USA Today baseball columnist Bob Nightengale outlined the newest accolade Boston hit.

“That’s nine victories in a row, and a franchise-record 27 victories in their last 30 games,” Nightengale posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Boston could now easily threaten the 14-game winning streak it hit during June. That winning roll matched a previous franchise-best from the 1946 season.

The Red Sox and A’s went scoreless after the first inning. But Jarren Duran pounded the first home run of the contest. He sent a 94 miles per hour fastball over to left center field that lured in one runner. Jake Rogers followed by doubling to center field which drove one runner in. Wilyer Abreu smashed his double to right two batters later, luring two more Red Sox teammates home to make it 5-0.

Abreu tacked on one more RBI off a single toward right. Masataka Yoshida and Andruw Monasterio then ripped their RBIs next through a double and single to right and left field, respectively. Yoshida pounded one more RBI, off a sacrifice fly toward center field that brought Eli White to home plate. Caleb Durbin smacked the final RBI with his double toward left.

Pitcher Payton Tolle claimed the win on the mound in striking out 14 batters while allowing two hits in six innings.
