Giants pitcher to miss 5-6 months after undergoing arm surgery

As parts of the San Francisco Giants’ pitching staff are struggling, the team gets more frustrating news in that area, specifically dealing with Jose Butto. With a brutal start to the Giants’ season so far, the news on Butto won’t help, as he will miss an extended period of time.

The team would announce on Saturday that Butto will miss five to six months of action as he had surgery “to repair an axillary artery in his upper right arm.”

“José Buttó (right arm fatigue) had surgery yesterday with Dr. Jason Lee at Stanford Medical Center to repair an axillary artery in his upper right arm. He will begin the rehab process next week. Return to play is approximately five to six months,” San Francisco’s statement read, via Susan Slusser.

The last time Butto played was on April 1 in the 7-1 loss to the San Diego Padres, as he recorded 0.1 inning in that contest.

Jose Butto’s issue stems from potentially before being traded to the Giants

On April 4, Butto was to have gone through a procedure that removed a blood clot from his right arm, which Giabts manager Tony Vitello mentioned how this issue was potentially stemmed from when he was with the New York Mets. Butto was traded from New York to San Francisco last July.

“It seems like this is something that occurred before he was with the Giants, or at least [he had] symptoms of it,” Vitello said, via MLB.com. “So maybe this has been building up for a while. For him to be at a crossroads, finally, where he knows what the problem is and it’s kind of boiled over — it’s unfortunate that he’s not with us and active on the mound, but I think everybody likes the guy so much.

“Everybody’s concern immediately is going to be with someone’s health. But he’s a very, very, very well-liked and well-respected guy. Everyone was concerned right away. I think the fact it’s not worst-case scenario, or it could be worse, is good,” Vitello continued.

It remains to be seen how Butto recovers from a delicate issue.
