Former Packer Antonio Freeman’s son scores massive goal for USMNT at World Cup
The United States has gotten off to a brilliant start in the World Cup. A week after the Americans’ decisive victory over Paraguay in the team’s first game, the United States made another statement with a 2-0 victory over Australia in Seattle.
How cool is this: Alex Freeman, the son of Packers All-Pro WR and Super Bowl winner Antonio Freeman, with the big goal for USA.

The game was played at the home of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field, but it is called “Seattle Stadium” for the purpose of the World Cup. The Americans jumped out to an early lead when forward Folarin Balogun attacked down the left side and his cross into the scoring area was knocked into the net by an Australian defender.
That gave the Americans a 1-0 lead at the 11-minute mark, but the U.S. was not done and kept pressing the attack. Alex Freeman, the son of former Green Bay Packers star wide receiver Antonio Freeman, pushed the lead to 2-0 when he headed in the rebound of a long shot by Sergino Dest.
The goal was immediately waved off for being offside, but the video assisted review (VAR) determined the goal was legal. Freeman did not venture towards the goal until Dest blasted the ball on goal and he went up high to win the battle and drive the ball into the net.
Australia tried to stay in the game by playing a rough, physical game, but they were unable to cut into the lead. U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with the way the U.S. played against a strong and physical opponent.
“It was a fantastic game again, very good first half,” Pochettino said. “I think we dominated the game against a very tough team.”
