Florentino Perez teases imminent bid for ‘most expensive signing in Real Madrid history’

Florentino Perez has vowed to launch a £130million bid for a mystery player next week if he wins Real Madrid’s president election.

The incumbent will go head-to-head with challenger Enrique Riquelme on Sunday.

Ahead of the election, both candidates have promised supporters new signings at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Riquelme had guaranteed this week that he would sign Erling Haaland and Rodri if his campaign is successful.

However, his claim has angered Manchester City, who are considering legal action over his antics.

Perez’s transfer promise

Perez has now made a promise of his own to the Real Madrid members.

During an appearance on Spanish TV show Horizonte on Thursday night, he claimed he will make a £130million bid next week.

The 79-year-old explained: “On Tuesday, I’ll make an offer to a big Champions League club for a player which would be the biggest transfer in all Real Madrid’s history, at least €150million (£130m).”

Real Madrid’s current transfer record is the £115million paid to Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in 2023.

Perez added that his mystery signing will not be from a Premier League club.

Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise and Harry Kane were both mentioned by host Iker Jimenez, but Perez said he would not be able to guess the player.

He added that they would be on the same level of the previous ‘galacticos’ he has signed such as Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

When told the members will want to know, Perez admitted: “They’ll have to wait, we will do it on Tuesday.

“It’s not Haaland, but it’s a total galactico. First, we have to talk to the club. We are serious, not like them.”

Perez has also revealed he will appoint Jose Mourinho as manager if he wins the election.

Meanwhile, his election account has also teased the signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.

This weekend’s Real Madrid presidential election is the first to be contested since 2006.

Perez is looking to maintain his position as president, which he has held since 2009.

He previously served in the role for six years from 2000 to 2006.

Real Madrid are fresh from their first trophyless season for five years.

Los Blancos finished second in LaLiga behind Barcelona as well as losing the Spanish Super Cup final to their bitter rivals.

Meanwhile, they were beaten in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and knocked out of the Copa del Rey by second-tier Albacete.
