Fever’s Caitlin Clark reveals why she didn’t play Wednesday vs. Fire

As fans were clamoring for any injury update regarding Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark after missing Wednesday’s 90-73 win over the Portland Fire, she is back with the team and playing in Friday’s contest against the Golden State Valkyries. While there has been controversy around the Fever and Clark’s injury, the guard would clear the air on what happened.

Clark ended up missing the aforementioned win over the Sun due to a back issue, though it wasn’t serious, as she is back for Friday’s game, but there were narratives that she wanted to clear the air about. The star would go through her days leading up to the game in how she felt, even saying she woke up a “little sore” on Tuesday.

“I woke up—Tuesday, I was here. I got treatment, as I’ve done many practices before, as many of my teammates have done. I had every intention of playing, didn’t indicate I wasn’t going to play. Approached Wednesday, the day of our game, as that I was 100% playing,” Clark said, via Tony East.

When asked who made the final decision to stay out of the game, Clark would say it’s “me and my confidence.”

“I think, at the end of the day, it’s me and my confidence. Obviously, I have a great team around me. It’s not only me… Coming back from injury and having three soft tissue injuries is a real mental challenge,” Clark said.

There’s no denying that whenever Clark has an injury, it’s the talk of the town, as she’s been plagued by missed time, playing only 13 games last season. At any rate, the back issue doesn’t appear to be serious as Clark is back for Friday against Golden State.
