Falcons fans will love Tua Tagovailoa comparing Zachariah Branch to Jaylen Waddle

The 2026 offseason has been one of striking resemblances and uncanny comparisons for the Atlanta Falcons. The team scooped up Tua Tagovailoa after his release from the Miami Dolphins. The lefty quarterback has often been compared to Michael Penix Jr., the incumbent at the QB spot for Atlanta.

Penix is still recovering from a partially torn ACL, but he is already participating in 7-on-7 and individual drills. Both players are expected to get significant reps when Penix is fully healthy, but for now, with OTAs underway, Tagovailoa is the primary man under center. Tagovailoa has noticed a comparison of his own, and that is that Zachariah Branch reminds him of Jaylen Waddle.

“Dude is fast,” Tagovailoa said about Branch. “Dude can play, [he is] very shifty. Kind of reminds me of a Waddle. I mean, he has the same number.”

Of course, Tagovailoa and Waddle found a lot of success together during their time with the Dolphins. The fact that Atlanta’s new quarterback is already finding great chemistry with a young member of his receiving corps is a great sign. Branch is a rookie third-round pick out of Georgia. He had 81 catches for 811 yards this past season before declaring for the draft. The 5-foot-9 receiver is undersized, but he has great skill and was highly productive in college. If Branch can come close to the player that Waddle is, then the Falcons will have a star on their hands.
