Exclusive: Charlotte Flair was destined to share WWE WrestleMania 42 with Alexa Bliss regardless of location
The decision by WWE to move WrestleMania 42 back to Las Vegas — after announcing it would be in New Orleans — was controversial to some, but the legendary Charlotte Flair sees the vision.
“I think that WrestleMania has always had a different theme every year due to being in different cities, and announcing the city who was going to host was always exciting,” Flair conceded, speaking to ClutchPoints over the phone in an exclusive interview before WrestleMania, ” but I also think there is an exciting element where when you come back to the same city two years in a row, it kind of becomes your territory.”
On some level, Flair senses WWE is “putting roots” in Sin City, and feels there’s a “special connection” between the company and Allegiant Stadium, where WrestleMania 42 will emanate from on Apr. 18 and 19.
There’s also the tourism aspect. WWE brings a lot of attention to Las Vegas when they roll into town for WrestleMania 42, and for Flair, “it’s a great place for families to come enjoy other activities, not just wrestling.”
Granted, Flair herself won’t be taking in the sights of a show at the Sphere, noting, “I’m focused on work while I’m here. It’s WrestleMania week — it’s like our Super Bowl.”
Even if WWE were to hold WrestleMania 43 in Las Vegas in 2027 (the show is currently set to take place in Saudi Arabia for the first time), Flair’s opinion wouldn’t waver, conceding at least she’d “know all the good meal prep places and gyms.”
Sharing the WrestleMania spotlight with Alexa Bliss was always the move for Charlotte Flair

During Night 1 of WrestleMania 42, Flair will participate in a fatal four-way tag team match for the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Flair and Alexa Bliss, sometimes dubbed “Charlexa,” will be one of the four teams in the match.
This is Flair’s ninth Wrestlemania — don’t ask her to rank her matches; as she adamantly said, “I’m definitely not gonna rank them, sir,” with a laugh — but the first time she has competed in a tag team bout at the Showcase of the Immortals. Generally, Flair can be expected in the main event scene, vying for world titles. Instead, she is sharing the ring with seven other women on Saturday.
Sharing the ring with Bliss was always in the cards, whether it was teaming up with or facing her. There was some concern that the beloved duo would break up after the Royal Rumble (Flair eliminated Bliss from the battle royal). However, they’re still going strong three months later.
“I haven’t lost my competitive edge, and there’s never a time I [don’t] want to be in the biggest match on the Grandest Stage of Them All,” Flair admitted. “But it really boils down to I’ve been alongside Lexi (Alexa Bliss) for almost a year now, so whether I was against her or teaming with her, that’s what felt right for this year’s WrestleMania.”
Their synergy will continue when they make their entrance. Flair teased that her and Bliss’ outfits are “definitely coordinated” and they “fit our personalities and the dynamic of the group.”
Having fun with their segments

Ever since Flair teamed up with Bliss, she has been afforded the chance to let her guard down. While she can still turn heel whenever the “switch needs to happen,” she doesn’t feel she’s “lost the seriousness” of “The Queen.”
“Here’s the thing: I don’t think I’ve lost the seriousness. I think that I’ve just been able to let down my guard and be goofy and serious at the same time, not knowing that I could be that way and that people would be okay with me being that way,” Flair said before doubling down, “So when that switch happens, I think people will appreciate the switch.”
Ultimately, her partnership with Bliss has unlocked something in her. Now, there will “always be a part of me that won’t be shy,” thanks to this pairing.
From gifting Bliss an autographed picture of herself to eating ice cream after missing out on Elimination Chamber, Flair has been funnier than ever in recent months.
It’s clear that Flair genuinely cares about her character. She explained her thought process during the ice cream bit, likening it to a breakup.
“That was my idea,” Flair said of eating ice cream for a few weeks in a row after not qualifying for the Elimination Chamber. “I was like, What would a girly girl do if they were really depressed? You eat a bunch of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream!”
Even after 14 years of professional wrestling, Flair hasn’t “lost the hunger or the eagerness to continue to grow and entertain.” Expect her to continue pushing the envelope going forward.
Her WrestleMania 42 opponents
Flair and Bliss will have a tall task at WrestleMania. If they hope to win the Women’s Tag Team Championship, they will have to go through tough opposition. The reigning champions are Nia Jax and Lash Legend, better known as the Irresistible Forces, which Flair thought was an apt description for Legend.
Their other opponents include the Hall of Famers, the Bella Twins (Nikki and Brie Bella), and the duo of Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. Flair is especially excited to “beat the crap out of” Bayley, one of the other Four Horsewomen of WWE.
“Bayley is my Horsewoman sister, and we will forever be connected, whether against each other or aligned,” Flair reasoned. “So I’m really excited to be in the ring again with Lyra and obviously to beat the crap out of Bayley.”
Flair is also incredibly high on Bayley’s tag team partner, Valkyria. They’ve mixed it up a few times, with Valkyria picking up the win against Flair during their first televised singles match during the Apr. 13 edition of Monday Night RAW.
“Lyra and I have had three outings now, and she has impressed me [in] every single one,” she raved.
The Bella Twins’ impact on women’s professional wrestling

The Bella Twins may be divisive to some. They were some of the last members of the “Divas” era. Flair beat Nikki Bella to win the now-defunct Divas Championship in 2015, which would later be replaced by the Women’s Championship.
To that end, Flair and the Bellas will always be connected. And Flair is one of the Four Horsewomen who helped push the evolution of women’s wrestling in WWE.
While they were part of the “Divas” era of WWE, the Bella Twins also drew a broader audience through their reality series, Total Divas. They were fixtures of the show, later receiving their own spin-off, Total Bellas.
“It was pivotal for the women,” Flair said of the Bellas’ success on Total Divas. “When I won the title from Nikki, I just remember [thinking], Wow, she is a superstar. And taking that and learning from that and understanding branding, to see them back is exciting. It adds to the match. The Bella Twins are Hall of Famers.”
Despite how nicely she spoke about the Bellas, particularly Nikki, that hasn’t stopped her from poking fun at her. Flair went viral — something she was unaware of — for doing Nikki’s iconic twirl several times.

“Did it go viral? Flair asked in disbelief. “Probably ’cause it was so bad, right?”
It wasn’t for that reason. Fans loved seeing Flair hit the Nikki twirl, something “The Queen” even admitted was a long time coming, excitedly claiming, “I’ve been waiting 10 years, baby, to do it again.”
Charlotte Flair on her past rival, Nia Jax

Another woman in the fatal four-way is Jax. Flair and Jax famously had a match on RAW where real punches were thrown. This happened during the Aug. 30, 2021, edition of RAW.
In a 2026 interview with Chris Van Vliet, Jax chalked it up to a “miscommunication.” This resulted in tensions rising and real punches.
Jax explained that they were “good” following the infamous match. Flair wasn’t willing to share her side of that match, but she did send Jax a warning.
“I’m ready for Saturday,” she declared. “And I’ll be ready for the punches coming.”
On celebrities joining WWE for WrestleMania

A hot-button issue in WWE is the company’s usage of celebrities. Celebrities have always been part of professional wrestling, but fans’ stances have changed in recent years. Perhaps that’s partially due to people like Travis Scott playing a major role in John Cena’s record-setting 17th world championship win last year.
In 2026, Pat McAfee, IShowSpeed, and even Jelly Roll are all expected to play parts in WrestleMania 42. The fate of marquee matches like Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton, a feud decades in the making, may ultimately be in the hands of someone like McAfee.
Flair doesn’t have a problem with celebrities coming in, though, at least not on the surface. She conceded that “anytime there’s an opportunity to bring new eyeballs to our product, it only helps.”
Maybe this was the diplomacy of “The Queen,” but she isn’t wrong. IShowSpeed’s feud with LA Knight and interactions with fellow social media star Logan Paul have gone viral.
Do Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss need tag team gold?
Flair and Bliss have already won the Women’s Tag Team Championship once. However, win or lose, they will continue to “feel like champions.”
Of course, they’d like to regain the titles, Flair conceding her sole focus at the moment is “regaining the tag team titles and becoming two-time Women’s Tag Team Champions with Lexi,” but there are levels to this.
WrestleMania 42 is the first iteration of the annual event to be broadcast on the ESPN app following the broadcast deal. The first hour of Night 1 will air on ESPN2, while the first hour of Night 2 will air on ESPN. That means a bigger audience than ever will be exposed to WWE.
Does that affect Flair’s mindset heading into her match? Absolutely not. Flair promised that fans who tune into her match will see a “very competitive” match of past and future stars.
“You’re gonna see a fatal four-way match with past, present, and future Superstars who are very competitive,” Flair said. “Each team is a well-oiled machine with a different dynamic, and it’s gonna be competitive, it’s gonna be intense, and it’s probably the biggest fatal four-way tag team match WrestleMania has ever seen because the depth of talent within the match is that deep.”
How has 2026 treated Charlotte Flair, and what’s next?

In ClutchPoints’ last interview with Flair, she said 2025 “became special the moment I surrendered.” She’s keeping that mindset a third of the way through 2026, but it doesn’t feel like a new year yet.
“As a WWE Superstar, our year pretty much starts over after WrestleMania,” she said. “So I’ll be looking forward to seeing what the summer and the fall bring.”
So far, 2026 has been “pretty great” for Flair, who continues to grow her friendship with Bliss. Being in a “stacked” fatal four-way at WrestleMania is a way to cap off this chapter of her career before the next one begins.
While it’s unknown what the next few months will bring, one thing is for sure — Flair is in control of her narrative.
WWE WrestleMania 42 will kick off on Saturday, Apr. 18, and continue on Sunday, Apr. 19.
