Ex-Hornets’ guard Terry Rozier will lose most of $26.6 million salary after alleged $100K bribe
Terry Rozier was under contract for $26,643,031 during the 2025-26 season with the Miami Heat. Now, he is going to forfeit almost all of that money. During his time with the Charlotte Hornets, the guard played a role in a sports gambling scheme that led to his arrest.
Federal prosecutors indicted the Louisville product in October on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Rozier allegedly told a friend he’d remove himself early as not to hit his betting props in a March 2023 game. This information was sold to a group sold to a group of gamblers, with Rozier allegedly earning a $100,000 bribery.
Rozier has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence, but he was placed on administrative leave by the NBA in October, and the Heat waived him on April 10. The guard hopes to still play in the NBA, and with free agency coming up on June 30, he hopes to be taken off a no-contact list with the Hornets.
The ruling on Rozier’s 2025-26 financial earnings comes after a court filing was released from an arbitrator’s ruling last month. Via the conditions of Rozier’s bond, he was not allowed to travel across the country or be in contact with the Heat or Hornets, which prevented him from fulfilling his contract.
Rozier, a former 16th overall pick, has played 10 seasons in the NBA. He averaged 13.9 points and 3.5 assists per game during that time. Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones were other key NBA figures involved in rigged sports betting drama that has compromised the league.
