Everybody is making LaMelo Ball driving in Minnesota winter jokes after Timberwolves trade

On Thursday, the Minnesota Timberwolves shook up the NBA world by trading for Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. In return, the Timberwolves sent out Naz Reid and heavy draft compensation as they look to build off last year’s trip to the second round of the playoffs.

One joke that many users on social media referenced in the aftermath of this trade was Ball’s driving record, which did not exactly garner great reviews during his time in Charlotte.

“WARNING: LaMelo Ball driving on winter roads in Minnesota,” joked one fan.

“Lamelo driving in Minnesota winters is a serious public safety threat,” added another.

Ball got into a car wreck during last season in Charlotte, but thankfully, everyone was OK. He has also been caught on video numerous times committing traffic violations when leaving the Hornets’ arena and pulling out onto the street.

Assuming he makes it to the Target Center in one piece every night, Ball should be a great addition for the Timberwolves, as he gives Anthony Edwards a legit point guard creator to pair with for the first time in his career. While the Timberwolves’ defense might take a slight step back with this move, they still have Rudy Gobert anchoring things in the middle, and the versatility of Jaden McDaniels to help out on the wings.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for Edwards and Ball to gel next year, but if they’re both clicking, they figure to be arguably the most explosive offensive backcourt in the NBA today.

In any case, NBA free agency is slated to get underway on June 30, at which point Minnesota can continue sculpting their roster.
