Cardinals rumors: Arizona’s true feelings on Carson Beck taking Jacoby Brissett’s job after Hall of Fame Game fireworks

The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers put on a show during the Hall of Fame game, and it proved to be a quarterback battle between rookies Carson Beck and Haynes King. Though King walked away with the win, Beck put on a show, finishing with 15 of his 19 passes completed for 188 yards.

It seemed like Beck was doing almost everything that the Cardinals wanted, and it was how he worked through snaps and changed plays that impressed them the most. It raised the question on if Beck would have a chance at winning the Cardinals’ starting quarterback spot this season, but that’s not in the cards, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

“Barring a surprising development, Jacoby Brissett will be the Cardinals’ starter when they open the season against the Los Angeles Chargers Sept. 13. Brissett and the Cardinals just hammered out a one-year deal worth $15.5 million. Arizona also has veteran Gardner Minshew as an additional backup option at quarterback,” Zenitz wrote.

That means that Beck still has a long way to go before he becomes QB1, but the Cardinals know they have a young quarterback who can come in and make a difference.

“Everyone thinks he has a lot of potential,” a source said via Zenitz. “He works hard. He played a lot of games in college and he’s very mature, really smart, can process, can throw the ball and he’s an alpha in his own way. It’s just about being consistent day in and day out, and that’s what he’s been doing.”

Beck showed throughout his collegiate career that he can play at a high level, so it’s no surprise to some what he did against the Panthers. Now, eyes will be on him as the preseason continues to see if he can keep up that same level of play.
