Matt Olson’s HR off Cam Schlittler puts him in exclusive club led by Shohei Ohtani

The Atlanta Braves are playing the New York Yankees on Sunday. Atlanta star Matt Olson blasted a home run off of Yankees starter Cam Schlittler. That home run, which came off a 100 miles per hour pitch, put Olson in a very exclusive group.

“He’s the 12th player with multiple home runs off 100+ mph pitches under tracking (2008),” MLB.com reporter Sarah Langs posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday. “Only of those 12 with more than 2: Ohtani, 3.”

The Braves and Yankees got off to a wild start on Sunday, when Braves pitcher Chris Sale was thrown out of the game. Sale was tossed before the game even started. He was still upset after being called for a balk during Saturday’s game, that ended up playing a big role in New York’s win that day.

The Braves are currently first in the National League East. Atlanta is having a special season, with 70 wins on the campaign. The Braves are playing a Yankees team that is desperately trying to stay afloat in the American League East race.

Olson has 34 home runs on the season for Atlanta. He is batting at a .267 average. He is also celebrating another milestone on Sunday, as he has now appeared in 900 consecutive games.

“If Olson plays every game for the Braves for the fifth straight year, he’ll finish this season having played in 944 consecutive games. By the end of the 2027 season, he could own the game’s seventh-longest streak, and a couple months into the 2028 season, he could pass Miguel Tejada (1,152 games) and own the fifth-longest streak,” MLB.com reported.

Olson has been on fire recently. He now has five home runs in the month of August alone. Time will tell if Olson can keep this impressive streak going in the weeks ahead.

Atlanta enters Sunday having won eight of their last 10 contests. The Braves are 70-47 on the campaign.
