There are some well known household names, such as your Harry Kanes, your Lionel Messis and Kylian Mbappes who will be on spot kick duty who have some very short odds, but their are a couple of standout names that may raise the eyebrows of a few punters.

Panama left back Eric Davis and Tunisia winger Ismael Gharbi hold the highest odds of expected penalty takers both, at 20/1.

The 35-year-old Panamanian has scored six of the seven penalties he’s taken for his country, including one in a 3-0 win over El Salvador in the match which saw his country reach their second ever World Cup.

Davis started eight of his county’s 10 World Cup qualifiers, including each of their last five competitive matches, so can be expected to have a starting spot in their Group L matches against Ghana, Croatia and England, of which Panama will head into as heavy underdogs in each of them.

Tunisia’s Ismael Gharbi is a 22-year-old winger who has just spent the last season playing in Germany for Augsburg, on loan from Portuguese side Braga.

The winger has scored seven of the eight penalties he’s taken in his career, and despite having taken only one before for his country, it did come in their most recent normal time penalty, scoring the opener on a 1-1 draw with Tanzania in AFCON back in December.

Gharbi has started three of Tunisia’s last four matches, including their crucial final group stage match and the last 16 clash in this winter’s AFCON.

The north African side have been drawn into a tough group with Netherlands, Sweden and Japan, and will also be underdogs heading into all three games, leaving a penalty perhaps their best chance at finding the night.

Other notable likely penalty takers are midfielders Ryan Christie (12/1), Juninho Bacuna (10/1), James Rodriguez and Soufiane Rahimi (both 9/1) of Scotland, Curacao, Colombia and Morocco respectively.
