Encouraging Angels’ Mike Trout injury update comes with a catch
A hamstring injury forced Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout to the injured list. Now, the franchise is patiently waiting for their star to make his return.
Trout took his first steps towards that return on Tuesday by doing some exercises on field. Still, managing Kurt Suzuki doesn’t have an exact timetable for when Trout will be back with the Angels, via Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
“He’s progressing. We still don’t know the timetable but I think the activity level is ramping up a little bit and I know he’s starting to feel better so that’s a good thing.”
The outfielder has been no stranger to injuries throughout his career. Now dealing with one in the soft tissue variety, it could continue to nag if not treated properly. The Angels want Trout back on the diamond. But they want to ensure he is fully healthy before that day comes.
Prior to his injury, Trout was hitting .234 with 17 home runs, 36 RBIs and seven stolen bases. He already beat last year’s steals totals and is more than halfway to beating his home run and RBI totals. Furthermore, Trout is tied for the Angels lead in home runs, ranking third in RBIs and stolen bases.
The outfielder’s resurgence hasn’t led to any renewed Angels success, as their 32-48 record puts them nine games back of the AL West lead. But at the very least, Trout has proven he is still a strong contributor despite his many injuries.
To continue his comeback season though, Trout must be on the diamond. At the moment, the Angels aren’t sure when that’ll come at the major league level again.
