The Philadelphia Eagles have a big decision to make over the future of one of their superstars.

Entering the offseason, the Eagles have three defensive tackles eligible for extensions: Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo.

Philadelphia has already ticked one of them off, signing Davis to a massive three-year, $75 million extension on Saturday.

That leaves Carter and Ojomo, and after the extension, the team must decide whether to extend Carter, or trade him for picks.

ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler gave an insight into the potential answer to the question.

“With defensive tackle Jordan Davis now extended, Philly must also weigh whether to extend Jalen Carter, who is eligible for a new deal,” Fowler wrote.

“I’m told Philly has received trade calls on Carter.”

Just because the Eagles are taking calls, doesn’t mean they will ultimately ship him out of Philly.

According to Eagles Eric, NFL stats analyst and host of The EDGE for the Eagles Pin Pull Network, broke down a mock extension for Carter that not only would best Chiefs Chris Jones’ deal, but blow it out of the water.

He predicts that a potential contract extension for Carter would be four-years, $144 million, netting him elite edge rusher money as an interior defender.

While nothing is guaranteed, the mere suggestion that Carter could be traded has sent Eagles fans into a frenzy.

“There is just no way you trade someone with that much potential.. Howie you better now,” one fan replied, addressing the rumors.

“The Eagles would be absolute fools to trade JC,” A second added.

Eagles could be hesitant to offer Carter NFL record contract

Carter is a two-time Pro Bowler who recorded 33 total tackles, three sacks and seven pass deflections for the Eagles in 2025.

He was selected with the No.9 pick by the Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, and enters the fourth year of his $21.8 million contract he signed.

Despite dominating on the field, and easily being a top-5 defensive tackle in the game, it’s not all been smooth sailing for Carter in Philly.

Carter was ejected from a game against the Dallas Cowboys for spitting on Dak Prescott, and there were calls for the NFL to suspend him.

Carter also got involved in an altercation with Buffalo Bills tackle Spencer Brown in the tunnel.

The 24-year-old also struggled with shoulder injuries in 2025, which made him less effective in some games as a result.

All of these are potential reasons why the Eagles may be hesitant to make him the highest-paid defensive tackle in the league.

But a trade, however likely it is, would certainly be one of the most surprising moves of the offseason.
