Missing $146m weapon could take Indianapolis Colts to ‘next level’ as Daniel Jones takes first OTA snaps

Things could have gone a lot differently for the Indianapolis Colts in 2025.

The Colts jumped to an 8-2 start, largely thanks to the resurgence of quarterback Daniel Jones, whom they picked up in free agency.

Jones signed a one-year, $14 million contract in the offseason, after the New York Giants finally closed the curtain on his time there.

He threw for 3101 yards with 19 touchdowns and the highest QBR of his career before his season ended earlier than expected.

During the first quarter of the Week 14 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones tore his right Achilles.

Indianapolis turned to Phillip Rivers for the final three games of the year, but after their 8-2 start, they lost seven in a row and failed to reach the postseason.

With Jones being cleared to participate in 7-on-7 at OTA’s, they are being told to add another weapon for him.

Colts landing Tyreek Hill in free agency would be a home run

This offseason, the Colts revamped their defense – and also extended Jones on a two-year, $88 million contract.

Despite re-signing Alex Pierce, many around the league consider their offense is still too light if they want to establish themselves as a true Super Bowl contender.

There is still one intriguing name on the free agent market, who FanSided’s Wynston Wilcox believes makes too much sense for the Colts to pass on.

This is a long shot, but it might just be worth it,” Wilcox wrote.

“Daniel Jones is coming off a torn Achilles and while Tyreek Hill is coming off a major knee injury himself, landing Hill could take this Colts offense to that next level.

The Colts depleted their offensive weapons so turning to a player like Hill that could still be explosive might not be a bad idea.”

“This is a move that’s swinging for the fences.

“If it works out, it will be the lynchpin of this offense. If it doesn’t, it could backfire and ultimately keep this offense from having the success it wants.”

Hill is recovering from a left knee dislocation and multiple torn ligaments he sustained during a game against the New York Giants in 2025.

Miami Dolphins‘ new regime decided to cut ties with Hill this offseason after four seasons with the franchise.

During his time in South Florida, he posted 4733 yards in 54 games with 27 touchdowns.

Hill remains on the free agent market as the season draws nearer, and he has been linked with reuniting with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.

Whether the Colts front office decides to take the gamble remains to be seen, but adding a weapon like hill could be the formula that saves the Colts from another late-season heartbreak.

If Indianapolis truly wants to transform their offense into a legitimate powerhouse for a healthy Daniel Jones, pulling the trigger on Hill might be a risk they simply have to take.
