Maeda would join Ipswich following a trophy-laden four-and-a-half years at Celtic Park.

Since his arrival in December 2021, the 28-year-old has won ten pieces of silverware.

Of those ten, five were Celtic’s Scottish Premiership triumphs, along with three Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups.

On an individual basis, Maeda produced his best displays in the 2024/25 campaign as he bagged 33 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

His brilliance that season was recognised by being named the PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year, Celtic Player of the Year and an inclusion in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.

In total, Maeda has scored 79 goals for the Hoops from 212 appearances.

Maeda is also fresh off four appearances for Japan at the World Cup.

The forward started three of Japan’s four matches, contributing one assist.

Ipswich’s hectic summer

Maeda’s mooted arrival continues what has been a busy summer for the Tractor Boys following their promotion from the Championship.

Ipswich will go into the new campaign with a new manager for the first time since December 2021 after Kieran McKenna chose to step down.

He was swiftly replaced by Gary O’Neil, who was plucked from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

Following O’Neil’s arrival, Ipswich have brought in a string of players, including striker Emersonn from Toulouse for a club-record £26.6million.

Leicester City forward Abdul Fawatu is another key addition, as is Moroccan centre-back Issa Diop from Fulham.

Cedric Kipre and Chuba Akpom also returned to Ipswich on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell last term.

Ipswich begin their Premier League campaign on August 22 against Sunderland.
