Kentucky wins 4-star recruiting battle for D-Lineman over Tennessee

Under first-year head coach Will Stein, Kentucky’s recruiting success keeps snowballing, as the Wildcats landed a commitment Sunday from four-star defensive lineman Malachi Brown, one of the crown jewels of the state’s talent pool. The Corbin native announced his decision following an official visit to Lexington, adding another piece to a 2027 recruiting class that shows no signs of slowing down.

Brown selected Kentucky after considering several major programs, including Louisville, Miami, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive lineman is the No. 273 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 29 defensive lineman nationally, and the No. 4 player in Kentucky, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Brown became the Wildcats’ 19th commitment in the class and the second four-star defensive lineman to join Kentucky, alongside Prattville (Ala.) standout Elijah Brown. His commitment strengthens a recruiting group that has climbed into the national top 25 and currently sits No. 21 overall and No. 8 in the SEC. Brown becomes the program’s first June pledge after eight April commitments and six more in May.

The Wildcats now have six four-star commitments in the class, with four of those prospects coming on the defensive side of the ball. Brown joins four-star safety Marquis Bryant of Rolesville, N.C., four-star safety Tristin Hughes of Rocky River, Ohio, and Elijah Brown as core defensive building blocks. Bryant is ranked as the nation’s No. 27 safety.

Kentucky’s recruiting momentum extended beyond Brown during the program’s first major official visit weekend. Linebacker Drew Williams from Canton, Georgia, also committed to the Wildcats after visiting Lexington. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defender chose Kentucky over Oregon, Florida, LSU, and other major programs after receiving more than 40 scholarship offers.

Williams, ranked as the No. 41 linebacker nationally by Rivals, recorded 138 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, one forced fumble, and 23 quarterback pressures last fall. He also brings exceptional athleticism, having been timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
