Pistons rumors: Jalen Duren isn’t only Detroit big man with big offseason question marks

The Detroit Pistons will have to address a few things during the offseason, with the main one being extending Jalen Duren. The big man is set to command a max contract, and there’s a question of how the Pistons will go about keeping him on the team long term.

Duren isn’t the only center on the team who might have question marks heading into the offseason. Isaiah Stewart’s name has come up, and it’s expected that he could garner some trade interest, according to Omar Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.

“If I had to put money on it, I’d bet on Isaiah Stewart returning next season,” Sankofa wrote. “But will his name come up in trade talks? I’m sure of it. He has two years and $30 million remaining on his contract – a very reasonable figure for one of the league’s top rim protectors. Postseason performance aside, Stewart is a coveted player. Last season overall was his best, setting a new career high in blocks per game (1.6) while averaging under 23 minutes anchoring the No. 2 defense in the league. His outside shooting, while not as prevalent the last two seasons, is still an asset to his game.”

Stewart has been a key piece for the Pistons throughout the past few years, and it may take an enticing offer for the team to move on from him. It will be interesting to see what teams could be looking for his services, and what they’re willing to give up.

The Pistons don’t want to lose both of their centers, and having them on the roster to start next season should be highly likely. At the same time, it’s uncertain how contract talks will go with Duren, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if another team offered him something that the Pistons would question if they want to match.
