Eagles rumors: Philly insider predicts what Jeffery Simmons’ $105.8 million contract means for Jalen Carter
The Philadelphia Eagles will need to lock in some of their players for the future, and one of them is Jalen Carter. The interior defensive lineman set out during minicamp as he looks for an extension, and things could get tricky for him after Jeffery Simmons signed his $105.8 million contract.
That deal has a lot to do with Carter since they play the same position, and are both at the top of their games. Simmons is undoubtedly the best at his position, which is why he got that extension and reset the market, and Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice shared what he thinks that means for Carter.
“The overwhelming sentiment from an Eagles perspective was that Jalen Carter should be happy that the iDL market got pushed up a bit. I view that a little differently. In my opinion, it could have been worse,” Kempski wrote. “The top of the iDL market increased roughly 11 percent. However, the salary cap has increased roughly 18 percent since Jones signed his deal that set a new top of the market in 2024. Simmons is a significantly more productive player than Jones of late.
“Simmons will turn 29 on Sunday. Carter turned 25 in April. However, while Carter has shown flashes that he can be among the league’s best players, he had a disappointing 2025 season during which his production wasn’t close to Simmons’.”
The Eagles will definitely try to give Carter what he deserves, but they’ll also be careful with overpaying him. Outside of having a down season, he’s also had some questions regarding his character, such as when he spit on Dak Prescott at the beginning of last season.
Nonetheless, it’s hard to deny the talent he possesses on the field, and the Eagles would be crazy not to pay him what he’s worth.
