Eagles’ Jonathan Greenard brings championship mindset to Vic Fangio’s defense

The Philadelphia Eagles are making big moves. After a disappointing 2025 season, Philadelphia is boosting their defense even further by trading for veteran pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard. Greenard, who was with the Minnesota Vikings last season, will bring more firepower to a team that was already lethal on that end of the ball.

Seemingly by coincidence, Greenard was already in Philadelphia to watch the 76ers play the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs. Reporter John Clark tracked down the new Eagles pass-rusher to get an interview with Greenard. The new Eagles player was asked what he brings to the table, and the star responded with his goal of winning a Super Bowl.

“I’m going to bring that same energy I’ve been doing my whole time in the NFL,” Greenard told Clark. “I’m looking to bring some more hardware too, so that’s the main thing on the go, on the mindset.”

Greenard was also asked about how he thinks he would do in Vic Fangio’s vaunted defensive scheme.

“We’re going to find a way, I know that,” Greenard said. “He’s a genius for a reason and one of the best in the game for a reason. I’m excited to see what he’s going to draw. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Greenard finished the 2025 season with just three sacks and 38 tackles, struggling to stay on the active roster due to injuries. The Eagles are hoping that the pass-rusher recaptures his form in 2024, when he was named a Pro Bowler. In that season, Greenard finished the year with 12 sacks and four forced fumbled while playing in all 17 games of the season.

Greenard also signed a four-year contract with the Eagles worth $100 million.
