Dwight Howard pitches services to Spurs after Game 1 loss to Knicks
The San Antonio Spurs dropped Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Wednesday night, and former NBA star Dwight Howard wasted little time volunteering to help.
Shortly after San Antonio’s 105-95 loss to the New York Knicks, Howard shared a humorous post on Instagram suggesting he could provide reinforcements as the Spurs attempt to even the series.
The Hall of Fame center posted an image of himself wearing a Spurs jersey alongside an AI-generated video showing him dunking and celebrating in San Antonio colors.
Howard accompanied the post with a playful caption directed at the Spurs organization.
“I thought I told yall! Call my phone and say you NEED me! I’ll be in San Antonio tomorrow anyway

While Howard’s post appeared to be made in jest, it quickly drew attention from basketball fans following San Antonio’s opening-game defeat.
The Spurs entered the Finals after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in a seven-game Western Conference Finals series. However, they struggled offensively at times against New York in Game 1 and now trail 1-0 in the best-of-seven championship matchup.

Howard, 40, last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year built a Hall of Fame résumé that included an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020, eight All-NBA selections and more than 19,000 career points.
The Spurs still have plenty of time to respond on the court. San Antonio will attempt to bounce back in Game 2 on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC before the series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 next Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Meanwhile, the Knicks are seeking their first NBA championship since 1973 and took an early step toward that goal by stealing home-court advantage in the series opener.
