Dream bringing back Brionna Jones after 4th All-Star season
The Atlanta Dream have been active this week, as the first move they made was acquiring two-time All-Star Angel Reese in a trade with the Chicago Sky. A few days later, it was reported that they would be bringing back a key piece to their frontcourt, Brionna Jones.
“News: Brionna Jones is finalizing a deal to return to the Atlanta Dream, per source,” Andscape’s Sean Hurd wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Jones found a lot of success with the Dream last season and was able to expand her game under first-year head coach Karl Smesko. She was the one constant on the team, as she averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
After being with the Connecticut Sun for all of her career, she mentioned during the season how coming to the Dream made her a better player.
“If I had to use one word, I would say uncomfortable, but in the best way,” Jones said. “Being here and coming here has helped me step outside of myself. I think Connecticut was comfortable for me. I think coming here, being on this team, and being a part of this, and being asked to do things I haven’t done in my career, I think it’s been uncomfortable, but definitely making me a better player.”
During the offseason, Jones suffered a torn meniscus while playing overseas, but is expected to return in time for the start of the WNBA season. That’s good news for the Dream, and it will be interesting to see what a frontcourt pairing of her and Reese will look like.
The Dream still has moves to make, and with the draft approaching in a few days, they could add more talent to the team.
