Donovan Mitchell was impressed by RJ Barrett’s Kawhi Leonard shot

The Toronto Raptors escaped Game 6 and Jurassic Park with a victory, forcing a do-or-die Game 7 back in Cleveland on Sunday. It was all thanks to a miraculous shot and bounce by Raptors forward RJ Barrett.

With about four seconds remaining in overtime, Barrett’s three-point shot bounced up off the back iron about eight feet before dropping straight in to give the Raptors a 112-110 lead with 1.2 seconds remaining in the contest.

Toronto came up with a stop on the final possession, forcing a Game 7 on Sunday night.

After the game, Cavs start Donovan Mitchell was asked about his reaction to the shot given how unpredictable final seconds were.

“Damn,” Mitchell said straight up. “But there’s nothing to be deflated about. We’ve just got to protect home court. Now if this was Game 7 and that happened, then that’s a little different. We had an opportunity, it didn’t happen, and now we have to protect home court.”

The shot actually appeared similar to that of Tyrese Haliburton during last season’s playoff run between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks. Mitchell said Barrett’s shot didn’t remind him of that one, however, but it did remind him of Kawhi Leonard’s shot back in 2019 as a member of the Raptors.

“No, until you just said it,” Mitchell responded. “The first thing I thought of was Kawhi Leonard, but, you know, it happens.”

Donovan Mitchell finished Game 6 with 24 points, five rebounds, and two assists while shooting 11-of-26 from the field and 2-of-10 from three. If the Cavs are hoping to win Game 7 on Sunday night, he’ll have to provide much more offensively as a playmaker and scorer against this staunch Toronto Raptors defense.

Game 7 between the Cavs and Raptors is scheduled to tip off at 7:30PM EST on NBC and Peacock.
