Bruno Guimaraes asks Newcastle to delay pre-season travel plans to finalise Arsenal move

Bruno Guimaraes has asked Newcastle United to delay his travel to La Manga for a pre-season training camp as he closes in on a move to Arsenal.

Newcastle insist Guimaraes was always due to join up with the party on Sunday, but sources close to the player have told talkSPORT his original travel plans moved.

There is no suggestion Guimaraes is refusing to travel or train, but the small delay could allow a transfer to be finalised.

Newcastle insist Guimaraes return was always a fluid situation off the back of the World Cup and that his first training day in La Manga was Monday, which remains the case as it stands.

The revelation comes days after news emerged that Arsenal were confident they could strike a deal for the Brazil international.

Arsenal believe they have a verbal agreement north of £75million in place to sign the 28-year-old.

The Premier League champions have already agreed personal terms with the Newcastle captain, talkSPORT understands.

It comes one day after Eddie Howe’s surprise exit, with incoming boss Matthias Jaissle set to inherit a depleted squad.

Star players Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have already left for big transfer fees this summer.

Newcastle are under no pressure to sell Guimaraes, who still has two years left to run on his current deal at St. James’ Park.

However, the Brazilian’s departure would be a huge blow for the Magpies.

Guimaraes has been a first-team regular for Newcastle since his January 2022 arrival from French side Lyon.

Newcastle have brought in new faces to ease the exit of Tonali and possible departure of Guimaraes.

Teenage Dutch midfielder Sean Steur swapped Ajax for St. James’ Park earlier this month.

And the 18-year-old has been joined at Newcastle by Aladji Bamba, who signed from French side Monaco.

Newcastle have also brought in winger Bazoumana Toure and goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Hoffenheim and Reims, respectively.
