Giants rookie Daniel Susac makes MLB history not seen since 1900 in win vs. Padres

San Francisco Giants rookie Daniel Susac made MLB history during a 4-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday, becoming part of a rare home run milestone that had not been seen since 1900.

Susac went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in the win. The catcher opened the scoring in the second inning when he crushed the first pitch he saw from Padres starter JP Sears into the third-level balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. brick warehouse in left field, giving San Francisco a 3-0 advantage. Willy Adames was on base after leading off the inning with a single.

The rookie added another run in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly, helping the Giants extend their lead to 4-1. The performance came one day after Susac hit his first two career MLB home runs during San Francisco’s 16-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Homerless through his first 44 major league games, Susac has now hit three homers in his last two games. His recent power surge placed him in an exclusive group of players. After becoming the 201st MLB player since 1900 to hit his first two or more home runs in a single game on Wednesday, Susac became only the 20th player from that group to hit another home run in his following game.

Susac’s power production follows a promising Triple-A season, where he produced 18 home runs in 96 games last year.

Robbie Ray also played a crucial role in the Giants’ victory, allowing one run on four hits over six innings while striking out six and walking one. Ray earned his seventh straight decision and improved to 10-6, while Erik Miller recorded his fourth save.
