Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani adds Little League home run to already insane resume
The Los Angeles Dodgers ran roughshod over the Los Angeles Angels 15-2 on Saturday night, highlighted by a bizarre extra-base sequence from Shohei Ohtani that resulted in a Little League-style home run.
In the eighth inning, the 31-year-old drove a ball into the right-field corner that struck newly installed netting at Angel Stadium before rebounding back onto the field. Angels right fielder Jo Adell initially reacted as if it might be a dead ball, but the play remained live under MLB ground rules stating that a batted ball hitting protective netting and returning to the field is still in play. The ball was ultimately ruled a triple with an error (E-9), as Ohtani continued running and scored after a throwing miscue. The Angels challenged, but umpires confirmed the ruling stood.

The netting down both foul lines is a new addition this season and was not present during Ohtani’s previous tenure with the Angels from 2018 to 2023.
Ohtani later added a bases-loaded double in the ninth inning that drove in three runs, contributing to his five-RBI performance in the game. He finished 2-for-4 with two walks, two runs scored, and a season-high five RBIs.
The offensive outburst helped the Dodgers extend their winning streak to four games, with the possibility of sweeping the Freeway Series on Monday. Los Angeles turned up the heat late, with Mookie Betts launching a home run right after Ohtani’s unusual scoring play, as back-to-back blasts that put the game out of reach.
Ohtani’s performance came after a 0-for-17 slump from April 29 to May 4, followed by a stretch in which he recorded multiple extra-base hits over recent games.
On the pitching and defensive side, Justin Wrobleski allowed two runs over six innings, while Andy Pages made a clutch defensive play in center field, robbing a run with a diving catch that helped preserve an early 1-0 lead.
The win continued a hot run for the Dodgers, as they piled 15 runs by cashing in on walks, hits, and errors.
