Ruben Amorim jokes Manchester United is ‘more boring’ without him in cheeky interaction

Ruben Amorim joked that Manchester United’s press conferences are ‘more boring’ without him on Saturday evening.

Amorim, who is now in charge of AC Milan, beat his former side 4-2 in a pre-season friendly before laughing with journalists.

The Portuguese boss was sacked as Man United manager in January, with Darren Fletcher and then Michael Carrick taking over.

He departed the club following a very tough tenure, during which he won just 25 of his 63 games in all competitions.

Amorim was often slammed for his stubborn tactical approach, as he remained committed to a 3-4-2-1 set-up for United.

But it was that formation that put Carrick’s Red Devils to the sword on Saturday, as Milan came out on top.

And after the win, Amorim was in such a good mood that he laughed along with some English journalists as he left the stadium.

What did Ruben Amorim say?

Amorim stopped to shake hands with journalist Simon Stone, as well as some other media professionals at the ground.

He chuckled and asked: “Do you miss me?”

To which one person replied: “We miss your press conferences!”

And that led to the former Man United boss hysterically laughing and joking: “They’re more boring now!”

As he walked away, he continued to chuckle and pose for some pictures with fans before entering the Milan team bus.

Amorim’s entertaining press conferences

Amorim’s joke didn’t seem to be a dig at new Man United boss Carrick, but more of a quip aimed at himself.

The 41-year-old was sacked as Red Devils manager just 24 hours after making a bombshell statement towards the club’s board during his final press conference in his post.

He also went on to storm out of the explosive conference in January, in a chat that certainly wasn’t boring.

On top of that, Amorim had many other interesting press conference moments during his time in Manchester.

Amorim was often very honest when speaking to the media, calling his own team the ‘worst in the club’s history’ last year.

He admitted that he could be sacked at the end of 2024 too, following a third straight defeat during that season.

So, he’s definitely not wrong that the United press room has lost of bit of spark, for journalists in particular, since his exit.
