World Cup star Zion Suzuki in talks over Premier League transfer as PSG move collapses

Aston Villa are in negotiations with Parma for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, talkSPORT understands.

The Villans’ pursuit of Suzuki comes as Juventus revived their interest in Emi Martinez.

Suzuki was poised to join European champions Paris Saint-Germain, who beat Villa 2-1 in the Super Cup on Wednesday.

Why did PSG’s move for Zion Suzuki collapse?

PSG and Parma had reached an agreement of approximately £29million for Suzuki, only for the deal to collapse on Saturday.

It is understood a change in commissions surrounding the deal prompted PSG to withdraw.

Yet Suzuki may still end up leaving Parma this summer, with Villa ready to pounce.

The Japan international has been with the Italian side since July 2024 and his performances have earned him a reputation as one of football’s brightest young stoppers.

How likely is Emi Martinez to join Juventus?

As for Martinez, he had already informed the Villans prior to the World Cup he wanted to join Juventus.

However, Villa director of football Damian Vidagany appeared to pour cold water on the move in an interview with 365 Scores in July.

“The goalkeeper’s future is settled, he is staying with us, and we have no intention of letting him go this summer,” Vidagany said.

“The team needs his efforts and extensive experience, and he is a very important element in our project for next season.

“All the news published by the media about his departure to Juventus does not reflect the club’s true position.

“Martinez is a very important player for us, and we expect him to continue delivering his outstanding performances alongside his teammates.”

Martinez is tied down at Villa Park until 2029, having inked a fresh five-year deal in 2024.

The Argentina goalkeeper has been an ever-present at Villa since he joined in September 2020, making over 250 appearances.

In that time, Villa have qualified for the Champions League twice and ended their 30-year trophy drought courtesy of victory in last season’s Europa League final.

Which other stars have left Aston Villa this summer?

A summer exit for Martinez would be a bitter blow for Villa, who have already lost Lucas Digne, Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans this summer.

Rogers moved to Chelsea in an eye-watering £117m deal, with the fee making him the most expensive British player in history.
