Dodgers’ Mookie Betts HR gives him milestone that’s too insane to be believed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are in command in the National League West, a position they have held for multiple seasons. They have a brilliant roster led by Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Will Smith. However, this has not been the kind of season that the Dodgers expect from Betts or one that the talented shortstop expects from himself.
He has struggled quite a bit with injuries, and he has not hit with any consistency when he has been in the lineup. However, there are signs that Betts is starting to come around. Betts homered and singled in four at bats in the Dodgers’ 6-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox Sunday, and those two hits allowed him to raise his batting average over the .200 mark for the first time since March 27.
Betts is now hitting .204 with 7 home runs and 17 runs batted in 143 at bats this season. If Betts was not surrounded by Ohtani and Freeman in the Dodgers lineup — Smith is out with an injury — it could possibly be disastrous. However, manager Dave Roberts can give Betts all the time he needs to regain his hitting stroke since the Dodgers lead the San Diego Padres by 7.0 games in the NL West.
Betts is clearly one of the best players in the Major Leagues. He is an 8-time All-Star who has been a part of 4 World Series winning teams. He has earned 7 Silver Sluggers and 6 Gold Gloves. Betts has a career batting average of .288 with 298 home runs and 931 RBI in 13 seasons. He is in his seventh season with the Dodgers after playing six years with the Boston Red Sox.
