Dream’s Allisha Gray calls game with comeback dagger vs. Wings

Allisha Gray capped off her explosive evening in the perfect way possible, sinking the game-winning bucket to lift the Atlanta Dream past the Dallas Wings, 82-81, at College Park Center on Thursday.

With Gray and Angel Reese leading the charge, the Dream clawed back from a 15-point deficit to escape by the skin of their teeth. Atlanta notched its fourth straight win and improved to 17-10. The Wings, meanwhile, fell to 18-10.

Gray cut Dallas’ lead to a point, 81-80, after sinking three free throws. She followed it up with a fadeaway jumper over the defense of Paige Bueckers with 15.0 seconds left. It proved to be the game’s biggest play.

The Wings had two chances to steal the win, but Awak Kuier missed her three-point attempt and Jessica Sheppard muffed her tip-in.

Gray finished with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Reese had 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while Brionna Jones chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks off the bench.

Jordin Canada and Rhyne Howard struggled offensively, combining for only 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting. Canada had seven turnovers, although she had six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.

The Dream survived the Wings despite going 1-of-16 from the three-point line.

They faced a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, but they poured it on, outscoring Dallas, 30-17.

The Dream stayed aggressive all game, attacking the paint and puncturing the defense of the Wings. They went 19-of-25 from the free-throw line. Dallas, on the other hand, only went 9-of-14 from the charity stripe.

Atlanta will try to extend its winning streak on Friday versus the Seattle Storm.
