Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shares latest Tommy Edman injury update

Tommy Edman has not yet made his 2026 season debut, as he’s bouncing back from surgery that repaired his right ankle injury. On Saturday, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared an update regarding Edman’s recovery status.

Roberts claimed that Edman won’t return to action until about late May, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. The 30-year-old infielder is not yet running at full speed and seems to be behind Kiké Hernández’s recovery time right now.

“Dave Roberts said he’s looking at a ‘late, end of May’ timeline for Tommy Edman,” reported Ardaya. “Still not running at full speed. Roberts said yesterday that Edman is behind Kiké Hernández in terms of build-up.”

Although Edman isn’t running at full speed just yet, it sounds like he is at least getting some work in at the plate. Ardaya also reports that the seven-year veteran was one of the live batters Blake Snell faced in his live bullpen session as he continues working his way back from left shoulder fatigue.

“Blake Snell is getting set to face hitters for the first time — including, notably, Tommy Edman,” said Ardaya.

Edman initially underwent surgery on his ankle in the offseason to repair the ligament and remove a bone spur. It was an injury that was seemingly nagging him in the 2025 campaign and the offseason. When late May approaches, the Dodgers will likely send Edman on a rehab assignment before activating him off the IL.

Tommy Edman proved to be a reliable defensive option for Los Angeles last season. Playing in 97 games, he recorded 78 hits, 13 home runs, and 49 RBIs, giving him a .225 batting average and .274 OBP.
