Devils’ Luke Hughes is done for season to begin rehab
The New Jersey Devils have had a tough season, and Luke Hughes has also been struggling throughout the campaign. Things got worse for the young defenseman as he sustained an upper-body injury and will be shut down for the season, according to the Devils X account.
“#NEWS: The New Jersey Devils have shut down D Luke Hughes to undergo a procedure and get a head start on rehab for the off-season,” The Devils wrote on X.
It was just the latest of another list of issues in New Jersey, as the bad season is nearly at an end. Earlier this week, the Devils parted ways with general manager Tom Fitzgerald, as their poor record has been a steep drop from the previous season. New Jersey is currently 40-35-3 and has been officially eliminated from the playoff race.
Hughes has generated six goals and 29 assists over 68 games, a decline from last season. Overall, the injury was just the latest setback for the young defenseman. This was not what the team expected earlier this season when the Devils signed Hughes to a massive contract, indicating a decision to keep him in New Jersey long-term.
