Dave Roberts addresses Dodgers issue that hurt them vs. Braves
While the Los Angeles Dodgers are second overall in the National League West with a 24-16 record, they’ve won only four of their last six games, including Sunday’s 7-2 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium.
Since April 21, the Dodgers’ offense has been limited to four runs or fewer in 13 of 18 games, during which they’ve lost 10 times. In the mind of manager Dave Roberts, they’re clearly in a funk right now, as demonstrated by Sunday’s offensive struggles.
“As far as building innings, we just haven’t been able to do that,” Roberts said via MLB.com “Just kind of as a unit, I don’t think that we’re one piece right now. It’s not from lack of effort. We’ve been in this funk for quite some time. Those guys, they pitched well, but still. That’s kind of where we’re at right now.”
Infielder Max Muncy said that the entire clubhouse is taking responsibility for their recent struggles, and that they fully anticipate getting through this rough patch.
“We all know as a group that we’re struggling, and that’s just something that everyone’s trying to take on their own shoulder, instead of just passing the baton, myself included,” Muncy said. “Once we get back to everyone just having really good team at-bats, I think things will start clicking for guys, without even thinking about it. Just a rough stretch, and we’ve got to get through it.”
The Dodgers are the reigning World Series Champions for a reason, and even the best go through periods of struggle. They’ll have the chance to get back on the winning side of things when they welcome the rival San Francisco Giants for a four-game set beginning on Monday evening.
