Curt Cignetti drops bars about Indiana becoming college football powerhouse

The Indiana Hoosiers are this year’s defending champions, as the program aims to repeat a title in the 2026-27 season. Curt Cignetti’s team was just one of a few that managed to maintain most of its coaching staff and players while adding four-star and five-star recruits through high school and the transfer portal, giving them a strong chance to compete out of the Big Ten once again.

When asked on the set of “College GameDay” about Indiana becoming a powerhouse and managing to maintain the high level of talent on his coaching staff and roster, the 65-year-old head coach didn’t hold back, as he nonchalantly dropped some bars in his response. Cignetti exuded confidence hours before the Hoosiers’ season opener against North Texas.

“Why would you go anywhere else collegiately, unless you were leaving to be a head coach or an assistant coach, or leaving to be a coordinator?” Cignetti said. “We won a national championship. Went to College Football Playoff in 2024, right? So, that’s the reality of it. Now, if a guy wants to be in the NFL, or coordinate the NFL, coordinator wants to be a head coach, [it’s a] different story. I’m sure some day that’ll happen.”
