Falcons announce 2 defensive sets for Ring of Honor induction

The Atlanta Falcons announced some big news heading into the NFL season opener. The team announced that Bill Fralic and John Abraham will be inducted into the Ring of Honor this season.

The Falcons posted the news on their official X, formerly Twitter, account with the caption that read, “This season, Bill Fralic and John Abraham will be inducted into our Ring of Honor!”

According to the Falcons’ website, the team will induct Abraham into the Ring of Honor against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 11. Considered one of the greatest pass rushers in franchise history, Abraham arrived in Atlanta after a three-team trade from the New York Jets during the 2006 off-season.

Fralic, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2018, will be inducted into the Ring of Honor posthumously in Week 16 during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game.

More than two decades before Abraham’s arrival, Fralic was a legendary offensive lineman for the Falcons. His physical domination during his college career at the University of Pittsburgh led statisticians to invent the term “pancake block.”

The Falcons traded up in the 1985 NFL Draft to select him with the second overall pick. The trade placed him on an offensive line alongside team legends Mike Kenn and Jeff Van Note.

Fralic played eight seasons in Atlanta, and he earned four Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro honors, and a spot on the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team.  Now, as the Falcons look ahead to football action in the 2026 NFL season, the franchise will immortalize two of its all-time greats on both sides of the ball.
