Cubs pitcher dealt crushing season-ending injury update
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Porter Hodge received a crushing injury update on Wednesday. According to Taylor McGregor, the right-handed hurler will undergo UCL surgery. Hodge has not pitched in a big league game this year, and now his 2026 season is over.
Hodge, 25, made his MLB debut in 2024 with Chicago. He performed well, turning in a 1.88 ERA. He even spent some time as the Cubs closer, recording nine saves.
2025 told a different story, however. Hodge was impacted by injuries. While on the mound, he never found a rhythm and finished his season with a 6.27 ERA in 36 appearances. He will now have to wait to attempt to bounce back given his 2026 injury news.
With all of that being said, Hodge could still have a bright future at the big league level. He will need to work hard to recover from his UCL surgery, of course. It would not be surprising to see him get back on track once he is healthy in the future.
The Cubs will head into their game on Wednesday night against the Phillies in Philadelphia with an 8-9 record. Many National League Central teams have out-performed expectations early in the season, so Chicago is surprisingly in last place in the division. Nevertheless, the Cubs are not playing especially bad, and they could get over the .500 mark soon.
First pitch for the Cubs-Phillies contest on Wednesday night is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in Philadelphia. As for Porter Hodge, further updates on his injury status will be provided as they are made available.
