Cubs news: Craig Counsell gets real about Pete Crow-Armstrong’s blunders

The Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Chicago Cubs 5-0, thanks in part to an awful error by Pete Crow-Armstrong. After the game, Craig Counsell discussed the blunders that his star outfielder has been making, according to 104.3 The Score.

Crow-Armstrong was a revelation in center field in 2025,  winning the Gold Glove, and possessing a fielding percentage of .991 with eight assists and just two errors. However, he already has three errors before the season has hit two months, and a .980 fielding percentage.

Crow-Armstrong has not had a good week, and it just got worse. After dropping a fly ball earlier this week, he misplayed a ball on the ground that led to a “little league” home run. The play happened in the second inning with two runners on base. Next, David Hamlton smacked one into center field. Crow-Armstrong badly mistimed the ball, and it skipped past him. This allowed both runners and Hamilton to score. The Cubs never recovered.

It capped off a bad week for the Cubs, who were swept by the Brewers. While his play on the field has been less than stellar, his work at the plate also needs work. Crow-Armstrong is struggling, hitting just .225 with five home runs, 20 RBIs, and 26 runs. That is a drop from last season, when he hit .247. Ultimately, he is on pace for 17 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 88 runs, which would represent a decline from last season.

Crow-Armstrong will have a chance to bounce back this weekend when the Cubs open up a three-game series against the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field.
