The midfielder joined Coventry at the end of the winter transfer window from Brentford on loan until the end of the season.

As part of the conditions of the deal, if Coventry were promoted to the Premier League, they were obligated to sign Onyeka permanently.

talkSPORT told you back in April that the deal was done, although Coventry announced the signing on Monday with the deal coming into effect on Wednesday.

It’s not clear what fee Onyeka has joined for.

‘I will give everything’

Upon confirmation of his Coventry switch, Onyeka said: “I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry.

“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals and that was to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League.

“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.

“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and bring my experience.

“My ambition now is to help the Club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can.”

The 43-cap Nigeria international played a key role for Frank Lampard‘s men in the closing stages of the Championship campaign.

Coventry’s 2026/27 season

It’s a big a test as Coventry could’ve imagined upon their return to the top flight as they face champions Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on the opening night of the season on Friday August 21.

Coventry’s first home match sees them face Hull City, who earned promotion via the play-offs eight days later.

Onyeka is not set to line up against his former club until December 30 when Coventry entertain the Bees at the CBS Arena.
